Ancient Wisdom
& Tradions
Lower Solu Khumbu, the cradle of Sherpa culture, is a recognized Beyul, home to some of the region’s oldest villages and most important monasteries, including Thupten Choeling. In Junbesi, engage with artisans and spiritual teachers, while Chyalsa’s Tibetan settlement offers a glimpse into traditions of exile, resilience, and spiritual practice.
The valleys are alive with Himalayan art, craftsmanship, and festivals. Experiencing Mani Rimdu, one of the Himalaya’s oldest Buddhist festivals, allows you to witness dance, ritual, and devotion woven into community life.

Himalayan Art of Living

Slowing Down
& Tuning In
Spirituality at The Happy House is about slowing down, tuning in, and reconnecting with yourself. Our yoga and meditation studio hosts daily guided sessions, morning and evening, to center the mind and body. While our sound healing therapies help restore balance and align your natural rhythm.
We also embrace the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku (forest bathing) encouraging you to walk mindfully through sacred forests. At Beyul Spa, Ayurvedic and other healing treatments support the flow of energy throughout the body, bringing a deeper state of balance and well-being, at the end of an active day.

Overnight Retreats
Located in different corners of the lower Solu Khumbu, this region recalls the Nepal many fell in love with decades ago — a place of breathtaking Himalayan scenery, mountaineering lore, Sherpa traditions, and very few other travellers.
Days are spent ambling through lush valleys and rhododendron forests, passing alpine villages, monasteries, terraced fields, waterfalls, and sacred Mani walls. At night, we settle into thoughtfully set up camps set beneath a canopy of stars. When skies are clear, mornings culminate in sunrise views across some of the world’s highest mountains.

Adventures on
two wheels
Ride through what is fast becoming one of the world’s top mountain biking destinations. The first dedicated mountain biking trail network in Nepal, offering 17 trails, winds through stunning hilltops, valleys, and forests, designed in mind with riders of all levels- from beginners to advanced.
This network is a project spearheaded by the Phaplu Mountain Bike Club, working closely with the local community and forest department to create trails that connect people, nature, and culture. It is also the home of Enduro Ratnange, Nepal’s most exciting mountain bike race. Here, biking isn’t just about adrenaline; it’s about community and giving back.

Beyond Nourishing
Meals at The Happy House is never just food. Mingmar, our chef, folds his heritage, his past, and his knowledge of the natural world into everything he prepares. Many ingredients come from the garden just outside the kitchen or from farmers whose families have tended this land for generations.
His dishes are simple, yet layered with meaning and flavors that speak of altitude, season, roots, and belonging. Through our food, we aim not only to nourish you but also to connect you more deeply to our home.

Writing & Photography
The Happy House has always been a salon for the mountain and spiritual literati. Here, we regularly host workshops that encourage you to find your own path- no need to arrive knowing the end goal, only a desire to uncover a story true to you, in words, pictures, or both.
In this ancient region of Eastern Himalayas, we hike, camp, eat, drink, talk, write, and make images in landscapes sacred to both Hinduism & Buddhism. Workshops focus on ideas, techniques, and creative approaches, opening space for risk, discovery, and one-on-one guidance. We together explore how to see differently: what makes modern writing resonate, how photographs transcend clichés, and how narrative can deepen your purpose.
